Subject: US Treasury needs to adopt Same Country Exemption (SCE) regulations for FATCA

Message:

There are an estimated 6 to 9 million Americans living and working overseas facing a plethora of serious issues related to tax, investment and banking access. The U.S. Treasury can provide immediate relief for those individuals who are required to report their overseas bank and financial accounts under the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA). Because of FATCA, some foreign banks and financial institutions are simply turning away U.S. citizens and/or denying them financial access putting U.S. citizens overseas at considerable disadvantage. The US Treasury can adopt "Same Country Exemption" regulations which would alleviate the filing burden for U.S. citizens legitimately overseas treating their foreign accounts as local in-country accounts. This would not increase the risk of tax evasion which the FATCA legislation is intended to address.
